Legends Rugby announces new partnership with City League

City League

Legends Rugby is delighted to announce its new association with the City League. Part of the brand’s vision to make The Legends Rugby Festival even bigger and better in 2014, it has added an open aged ‘City League’ group to run alongside its existing Legends, Social Veterans and Ladies divisions.

Formed in the early 1990s, City League evolved from the informal games played between City companies into one formalised competition. The current City League teams reflect a wide variety of rugby players including bankers, lawyers and accountants as well as a variety of different skill levels, from beginners to ex-internationals.

Taking place at Wimbledon RFC on 12th July, the Legends Rugby Festival has more than half of the Premiership clubs entering Legends teams – including Saracens, London Wasps, Cardiff Blues, Gloucester Rugby, Leicester Tigers and Harlequins. This summer, Legends Rugby is adding something special through the City League to ensure it continues to offer the best rugby experience for players, families and fans. The City League group is open to any 10-aside teams run by a City business. Already well received, teams including BP, Accenture, BNP Paribas, and the Media Nomads are confirmed.

Says John Cardosi, who has been running City League since 2007: “We’re really pleased to be building on our relationship with Legends Rugby. Last summer’s festival was a huge success and we were involved by providing the referees, who not only enjoyed the competition, but recognised the enjoyment that was extended to their families attending, including my own.  The new City League group has already proved popular and we’re confident that it will be a stand-out element of this July’s event in Wimbledon.”

Legends Rugby Tournament Director Ian Dawson adds: “Our 2013 festival was a huge success with over 3,000 fans attending to see some of the biggest names in rugby compete in our Legends tournament. We’re committed to making this year’s festival even more appealing and enjoyable for fans and their families, and this new partnership with the City League reinforces our desire to cement relations between Legends Rugby and the City.”
