Former England Women’s Captain Announced As Legends Rugby Ambassador
Today, Legends Rugby announced a new ambassador – former England women’s captain Catherine Spencer.
Alongside Serge Betsen, Dafydd James and Phil Greening, Catherine will help to build awareness of events and activity leading up to the Legends Rugby Festival in July. A familiar face from TV and a huge supporter of women’s rugby, Catherine is an invaluable addition to the line up ahead of the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup in France.
Held at Wimbledon RFC on Saturday 12th July, the Legends Rugby Festival brings together legends of the game for a competitive tens tournament, with proceeds going to rugby charity Tag Rugby Trust, of which Catherine is also a patron.
“The Legends Rugby Festival is a unique event that truly highlights the spirit of rugby”, says Catherine. “There was a great turn-out from women’s teams last year and we hope even more will get involved in 2014. With the women’s Rugby World Cup coming up in August, rugby will once again be thrown into the media spotlight, helping to build awareness of the game. It’s a true team sport that helps to build life-long friendships as well as being a great way to keep fit, which is why we want to get as many girls’ and women’s teams as possible involved in the Legends Rugby Festival.”
The festival line-up currently includes legends teams from London Wasps, London Irish, Bristol, Saracens, Leicester Tigers, Worcester, Gloucester, Cardiff Blues, Harlequins, Northampton and London Welsh.
Tickets are currently on sale at www.legendsrugby.co.uk where you can also register your own team to take part in one of the men’s women’s or children’s tournaments that will also be taking place on the day.
